Frugal Ideas for Advent Calendars

The countdown has almost begun. December 1st is fast approaching, and before we know it, it will be Christmas morning. How do you attempt to slow down the time before Christmas and enjoy the holiday season, frugally, while it’s here? Here are some great ideas for doing just that from Northern Cheapskate:

  • Star and Chain: fashion a star out of construction paper and then make a paper chain with 24 links. Attach the star to the paper chain with a stapler. Each day, you can remove a link from the chain until you finally get to the star on Christmas Day.
  • Make an Activity Jar: write down 24 fun family activities on 24 scraps of paper and place them in a decorated jar. Pull out a slip of paper each day until Christmas.
  • Make Your Own: learn how to make your own Christmas Countdown with magnets, courtesy of the very creative Christy at Thrifty and Thriving.
