Woman Hires Plumber, Then Takes a Photo That Has the Internet in a Frenzy

Who you gonna call when your pipe bursts? You may want to think about ringing up one Jimmie Cox of Texas. The 23-year-old quickly turned into a local hero and then a national sensation for deciding to take on some ghastly water.

It all started when Andrea Adams noticed a murky, icky build-up of brown water in her front yard. Alarmed by how much there was, she decided to phone it in. The Texas homeowner contacted Acton Municipal Utility about the water main break and Jimmie Cox was dispatched to take the call.

As only a skilled professional would, Jimmie showed up to assess the situation. He decided it called for more than just a few tools and digging. He really had to dive in.

Andrea went inside her home for a bit but when she came back out to check on things, she found the utility worker up to his waist in the muddy water – only he dove into it headfirst. In disbelief, she snapped the pic of the dedicated repairman and posted it to Facebook. She was amazed at his dedication to getting the job done.

More amazed were all the folks that caught wind of the photo and spread it around the world. We learned that the hole Jimmie was immersed in was 5 1/2 feet deep, and he figured the easiest way to reach the water line was to dive in.

Someone else who’s familiar with getting grimy on the job saw the viral photo and was so impressed he offered to buy Jimmie a beer: Mike Rowe. The famous host of the Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs took to Facebook to give him a shout out:

“I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s all over my wall, all over Facebook, and all over the Internet. Hell of a thing to have your photo go viral, and still remain completely anonymous. At any rate, if you recognize him, tell him the first beer is on me…”

If that wasn’t cool enough, Wrangler chimed in to offer Jimmie some fresh new denim. Those jeans that he’s wearing (pretty much all that’s visible of him) in the pic are their brand. The company decided to gift the young man with a year’s worth of their denim goods to replace his dirty ones.

As for Jimmie, the attention has been overwhelming, but he called what he did all in a day’s work for him and others who do the same. He didn’t see the need for a fuss. And at the end of the day, he did manage to fix that broken line!

Watch this video from Inside Edition to hear more about Jimmie’s dive and what he was thinking. You’ll also get to see his one-on-one conversation with Mike Rowe! They’re both right: it may be a dirty job but someone’s got to do it.

Have you ever had a worker go above and beyond for your home? Would you do a dirty job like Jimmie? What do you think of this picture?
