Alla’s Yummy Food has a brand new one like nothing we’ve seen before, and we can’t wait to try them. Watch and learn how to make “ponchiki”— also known as cottage cheese doughnuts

You’ll Need

– 1/2 cup full-fat 9 % dry cottage cheese (or farmer’s cheese or quark cheese)
– 1 egg
– 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
– 6 to 8 tablespoons plain flour
– Pinch of baking soda + vinegar
– Sunflower or vegetable oil for deep frying
– Powdered sugar ( optional)

How To

  1. Mix the sugar and egg, then add the cottage cheese and mix well.
  2. On a spoon, place the vinegar onto the baking soda and allow it to bubble, then add it to the mixture.
  3. Add the flour and mix well.
  4. In a pan, preheat the oil so it’s nice and hot for frying.
  5. Roll out the dough into doughnut ball (or doughnut hole) shapes, using more flour to help them keep their shape and avoid sticking.
  6. Fry the doughnuts in the oil on each side for a few minutes until golden brown.
  7. Place the fried doughnuts onto a paper towel to get rid of any excess oil and allow to cool.
  8. Once cooled, sprinkle powdered sugar on top and enjoy while they are hot!
