The Trick to Making Your Very Own Candy Corn Cookies

It’s the time of year when everybody goes cuckoo for candy corn. If you’re one of the fans but your local store is sold out, or if you’re looking to enjoy the tradition in a different way, you’re going to love this recipe from Kawaii Sweet World. The dough is pretty typical, but her baking methods and what she does with that dough creates a dessert perfect for Halloween and fall in general. Let’s watch and learn how to make Candy Corn Cookies!

You’ll Need

– 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
– 1 cup sugar
– 1 egg
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
– Pinch of salt
– 3 cups flour
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– Yellow food coloring
– Red or Orange food coloring

How To

  1. Line a 9-inch-by-4-inch loaf pan with wax paper.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the egg, then add the salt and vanilla extract.
  4. Mix in the flour and baking soda until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into thirds. Press one third of the dough into the bottom of the lined loaf pan.
  6. Color another third of the dough yellow, then the remaining third orange (using either your orange food coloring or a combination of the yellow and red).
  7. Press the orange dough on top of the uncolored dough in the loaf pan and freeze for 10 minutes.
  8. Press the yellow dough on top of the orange dough and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  10. Remove the dough from the pan and slice horizontally into 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch slices.
  11. Cut each slice into 6 triangle wedges and place those wedges on a baking sheet. Refrigerate the pan for 15 minutes.
  12. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes.

Yum. I love the optional little faces she puts on the cookies at the end, too! Isn’t it great how a relatively simple dough can turn into something special? Do you think you’ll make these this Halloween? Are you a fan of candy corn?
