I’m always pleasantly surprised to find new ways to use my microwave. Just the other day someone was telling me to heat a little water in my microwave before popping popcorn as it increases the moisture in the microwave and makes the kernels pop fluffier. Here are just a few of our favorite tips:

1. Remove the Cold Spot

Microwaves are great for reheating leftovers, but they’re also notorious for leaving random cold spots throughout your food. Yuck. As it turns out, this is because the center of your microwave (where you’d usually put your plate or bowl) is a dead spot and receives little heat.

So the brilliant solution is…don’t put your food on the dead spot! Instead of putting your plate in the center of your microwave, place it on the outside edges of the turntable for a more even cook.

2. Make Pasta Quick

Want pasta but don’t want to go through the hassle of cooking on your stovetop? Just add one serving of pasta to a microwave-safe bowl and add the recommended amount of water. Then check the boiling time on the pasta box and add three minutes to that time before popping your pasta in the microwave.

In no time, you’ll have perfectly cooked pasta for you to dress to your liking! And no messy, oily cleanup, either.

3. Garlic Peeling Hack

We love adding garlic to EVERYTHING, but boy is it a pain in the neck to peel. A really quick trick is to break off a clove of garlic and pop it in the microwave for just a few seconds. When it comes out, you’ll find the garlic pops right out of its peel without any resistance.

No more garlicky, sticky fingers for you!
