Family Is in Disbelief After Woman Gives Birth to “1 in 33,000” Baby Boy

Babies: they’re cute, squishy, and most of all, miraculous. If you’ve ever delivered or been close to someone who has, then you know just how blessed the day can be. That being said, the events surrounding some births are just a TAD more intriguing than others.

Take the case of little Beauden Matthew James Eppard, for instance. This infant came into the world under pretty normal circumstances, but it was the day that he chose to show his face that makes him so special—and we mean really special.

You see, the baby was born on July 1, which means he shares a birthday with both his dad, Connor James Eppard, as well as his great-grandfather, James Elmer Morrisette. Talk about a coincidence!

An infant’s improbable birthday

When Jordyn Eppard, baby Beauden’s mom, first learned she was pregnant with her son, she didn’t give too much thought to his impending birthdate. After all, she was projected to deliver around mid-July, so the idea of having a third-generation July 1 baby wasn’t at the forefront of her mind.

But when the mom started to experience labor pains a good two weeks before her due date, she realized that she could, in fact, end up giving birth much sooner than expected.

In an interview with TODAY, the radiant momma explains what it was like to be rushed in for that earlier-than-predicted emergency Cesarean-section. “I did not want him to come on the 1 at all because it was 17 days early. That can sometimes cause problems,” Jordyn says. “For me, I just wanted him to be healthy more than anything.”

Well, at a whopping 8 pounds 11 ounces, Beauden was plenty healthy and ready to tackle this world. And he was, in fact, delivered on July 1, news that daddy Connor couldn’t wait to share with his grandfather.

While his wife was recovering, Connor got on the phone with Beauden’s great-grandpa to let him know that there was yet another family member who shares his July 1 birthday. The dad described James as being “speechless.” Just hours later, the octogenarian got himself to the hospital to visit the little guy. It doesn’t get much cuter than that, folks!

As we mentioned, the odds of this happening are fantastically low. According to Metropolitan State University mathematics and computer science professor Dr. Ben Dyhr, the chances of three out of four generations sharing the same birthday are almost impossible—he predicts it occurs in around 1 in every 33,374 births. Wow!

We’re so happy to hear that cute baby Beauden has been given the opportunity to carry on such a sweet tradition. To see even more pictures of this unlikely birthdate, be sure to watch the video below. This is the sweetest coincidence we’ve heard of in a while!

We can’t wait to hear what you have to say about this family’s lucky day. Do you have multiple family members that share the same birthday? If so, how many people do? Do you have an unusual birth story that you would like to share?
